Introduction
Steady and Collaborative on top of the Alchemist: things take longer to reach you, and when they do, you think them through with someone. A Sunday afternoon, a friend on the step, the broken thing between you, and half an hour in you've both stopped looking at it and started on how it was designed.
Under pressure
Pressure slows you down, if anything. You make a list, you read the thing twice, you stay level enough that other people check their own pulse against yours.
From inside it's measured, with one door left open: there's a person you'll think aloud to, and you know who. The deadline is the same size either way; it just feels smaller with company in the room.
When something goes wrong
You call one person, early, and not in a panic: "can I think at you for a minute?" It's usually the same person, someone who asks the right plain question. Twenty minutes later you've said it out loud, and said out loud it turns out to be solvable.
Then you go back to the desk and do it alone. The call wasn't for the answer. It was for the shape.
How the two fit
You hold your work close and your trouble a little less close. The price is in how lightly you say it. "Small thing, quick question" makes the listener hear small, and they answer the small thing while the real one sits unasked underneath. It goes better when you say once, "I need an hour of your head." The Quiet Alchemist carries it alone, the Night Alchemist replays it in the dark, the Bright Alchemist says it all at once.
